Chapter Four entitled, Subjective Knowledge: the Quest for the Self was just an extension of Chapter three describing in more detail the subjective inner voice.  Once a women has found this voice they are now answering to an authority within.  At this time they must find themselves and this time can create some considerable uneasiness for her.  This is a time when she must branch away from what was told to her and pursue what that voice wants.  If she differs a lot from authority she could face a lot of isolation.  This is a time for strength and self protection. The subjective voice might need to overpower some loud voices from the outside and she must protect it and herself from degradation.  This might result in her excluding herself because in ways this type of thinking can be exclusive in nature as well especially if it severely deviates from authority or social norms.  At this time she will need to observe her new self as well as others for  a greater understanding of this new voice.  I makes me think of when my intuition speaks to me I must  really observe how I handle  it  to stay true to my convictions.  Some times I find my intuition telling me one thing and my flesh doing another.  This contradiction might be me feeling unsure about my subjective voice or my discomfort with straying from social norms.  Regardless it is important to be receptive to that voice and stay true to those convictions.

  1. Does this voice change as women become older and have more experience?
